About the Work Based at the Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife, the Clinical Coordinator (CC) Operating Room (OR) / Post Anesthesia Recovery Room (PARR) provides clinical leadership, clinical supervision, and subject matter expertise to the staff of the OR, and ensures safe and effective patient care and nursing practice. The CC provides clinical education, support and mentorship to nursing staff in accordance with established standards of nursing practice, required organizational practices, health authority policies, and related Stanton Territorial Hospital procedures. The CC OR/PARR works closely with Management, Specialists, Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR), and other relevant Departments to ensure the safe and efficient coordination of procedures through the operative process. Stanton Territorial Hospital is a referral centre for the approximately 43,000 residents of the Northwest Territories and approximately 6000 residents of the Kitikmeot Region, Nunavut. The majority of operative procedures in the NWT and for the Kitikmeot are delivered by Stanton. Approximately 1600 – 2000 operative procedures are performed annually in the Stanton OR. The OR encompasses 3 Surgical Suites, and the OR program includes the PARR. Patients come from across the Northwest Territories and the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut. Activities require that OR nurses maintain highly specialized skills in supporting Specialists with OR procedures, including but not limited to Urology, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Eyes, Ears Nose and Throat (EENT), and General Surgeries. Typically this position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and a minimum of five years of recent clinical experience within Obstetrics. Equivalences will be considered. Additionally, a Perioperative Certificate and/or Canadian Nursing Association Certification in Perioperative nursing, demonstrated leadership experience, and a certificate or demonstrated knowledge/skill in adult education would be assets, but are not required.
